Biography
Alan Laing, one of Australia’s leading cryptologists and product security evaluator across the Australian government and industry, is Securus’ General Manager Labs and Principal Evaluator of their Australian Information Security Evaluation Facility licenced by Australian Signals Directorate / Australian Cyber Security Centre.
Alan has over 30 years of relevant experience, including senior roles in Defence evaluation programs and as the Head of Cryptology at ASD. Among other responsibilities, Alan lead reviews of Common Criteria (CC) assessments conducted by commercial labs, conducted Quality Assurance (QA) activities in support of the labs and provided policy advice to the International CC Program.
He has significant experience in conducting intelligence operations, providing ICT security advice, building business solutions and developing ICT security products for Government and commercial enterprises, backed by a detailed understanding of UK, USA
and Australian ICT security policies and procedures as well as FIPS, NIST, Field Programmable Gateway Arrays (FPGA) and Applications Specific Integration Circuits (ASIC).
Alan brings experience across intelligence operations, detailed understanding of a wide range of security Frameworks and practical product evaluation and assessment experience to this panel discussion.
