Automotive Cybersecurity: Could You Trust the Connected Car? (D13a)

The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to connect everything with everything else even in the automotive sector: Vehicles are increasingly connected to backend services and corresponding business models. Furthermore they are prepared for “Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems” (C-ITS) of the future so that the connected car could move autonomously on the digitized street. In such future C-ITS scenario safety regulations needed to be reconsidered as well as cybersecurity regulations have to be defined that shall consider existing standards – like the Common Criteria.

As the Common Criteria do not seem to be the favorite scheme of the automotive sector, the automobile industry has already published the ISO/SAE 21434 as an alternative to increase the level of cybersecurity during development and production. Out of the CC expert viewpoint this increase could probably not high enough, so many activities started to convince the vehicle industry how to use the CC in vehicle components as on the digitized street. The presentation shows some examples of these activities that are initialized by the Car2Car communication consortium, by the FIA and ADAC as well as by German authorities together with manufacturers.
